Google’s Giles Spackman has been appointed Group Finance Director at Oxford University Press (OUP).

He will join OUP in December 2013, working from OUP’s head office in Oxford.

Nigel Portwood, CEO of OUP, said of the appointment: “Giles has a fantastic range of skills and experience that means he is superbly qualified to take this important role at OUP. His deep understanding of the media industry and the impact of digital trends, along with his leadership of finance functions in growth companies, means that Giles will be able to make a major contribution towards OUP’s future success in pursuit of its educational and academic mission.”

Giles said of his appointment: “I am very excited to be joining OUP. It has a strong track record of excellence and success in academic and educational publishing, and plays an important role in extending the reach and impact of Oxford University’s educational mission around the world.
