As part of a joint effort by international ELT publishers and local book distributors to support Tohoku disaster relief, two Japan-based distributors have started selling donated ELT books, with 100% of the proceeds going to Tohoku charities.
Donated books can now be ordered through ELTBOOKS.com and englishbooks.jp. Teachers and schools are asked to make a minimum donation of 50% of the regular retail price, although additional donations are encouraged. The entire amount received for the books will be passed on to the two recipient charities, Ashinaga Foundation and Living Dreams, helping children affected by the disasters in Tohoku.
In addition, both distributors will be selling at events along with JPT and Miyoshi.
Currently, more than 17,000 ELT-related books with a total value exceeding 36 million yen have been donated by 13 publishers. A spokesperson for the group commented "We see this as a great way for teachers and schools to get hold of books at great prices and assist charities with their work in Tohoku at the same time."
Materials have been donated by the following publishers:
Abax, Cambridge University Press, Cengage Learning, Macmillan Language House, McGraw Hill, MPI, Oxford University Press, Pearson, AGO Card Game, BTB Press, Nuway English Publishing, Super Simple Learning
• ELT for Tohouku
• New publishers' group to support areas affected by March 11th disaster
• Ashinaga Foundation
