Extensive Reading World Congress: Vaughan Jones on "Extensive Reading in the Digital Age"

Teaching-English-in-Japan-Education-Eigo-Noto" Vaughan Jones, former Macmillan Japan manager, professional rugby player and co-author of the bestselling Inside Out coursebook series will be presenting this coming Sunday in Kyoto:

Jones commented "The mantra I have used for thirty years in the classroom is 'get your students hooked on books'. What I meant, of course, was 'get your students hooked on reading'. The advent of e-readers does nothing to challenge all the sound pedagogic principles behind successful extensive reading. Quite the opposite. As author Irvine Welsh remarks, "I'm not in the business of selling books. I sell writing. It doesn't bother me how they want to read it as long as it's true to the ideas I had". In short, the message is the same it's the medium that may be changing."
