Pearson to open 50 new English schools in China, create 2,000 new jobs

Pearson has announced plans plans to open 50 new schools in China over the next few years and create 2,000 new jobs as it builds on last year's $145 million acquisition of the Wall Street English chain.

Emerging markets are a priority for Pearson, and China, which has more English language learners than any other country is a key target. It currently has 66 schools in China with a total of about 50,000 students.

John Fallon, chief executive of Pearson International commented: "We now employ more than 3,000 people in China, our largest group of Pearson colleagues outside the US and UK, and this number will continue to grow rapidly."

Pearson is the world's largest educational publisher.
