Survey: English just a hobby for most Japanese

A recent survey of just over 1,000 Japanese people by goo Research reveals that English is by far the most popular language for study but that for 57.9% of those surveyed it was just a hobby.

Work was the driving factor for 29.8%, travel accounted for 24.1%, studying for qualifications motivated 21.9% and other reasons spurred on 7.9%.

It would seem that EFNA or English for No Apparent Reason is still alive and well in Japan.
