Companies offer English through science and dance

As the introduction of compulsory English education at elementary school in April 2011 approaches, parents are becoming increasingly interested in ways to improve their child's English. Sensing a business opportunity, companies are starting to incorporate English into some of their general classes.

Eikoh Inc is offering experimental science classes in English. Conducted by native speakers, the lessons are aimed at second- to sixth-graders. Fitness club chain Sumitomo Fudosan Esforta Co., is starting a jazz dance course for 3- to 12-year-olds in English this month. Tactgroup Inc.'s Kids Duo day care encourages children to speak to each other in English. The company has seven locations in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture and continues to expand
