Japanese elementary schools to pilot digital textbooks

10 elementary schools will give all their under-12 pupils tablet PCs under a "future school" project. Classrooms will also be equipped with interactive electronic blackboards starting as early as next month.

Despite its status as a high-tech pioneer, Japan is behind South Korea, Singapore, and Britain in IT use in education.
