Will the JET program be stopped?

jet.jpeg

The cabinet office has questioned the necessity of the JET program, saying it should be cut or revamped as part of the current administrative reform. However, the U.S.-Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange has called for investment to be made in education for the Japan-U.S. alliance in the future, and issued the following joint statement after its two-day gathering in Washington: '"The investment should range from improving English language education in Japan to stimulating interest in each other's country...sustaining the JET program and fostering public intellectuals through graduate and post-doctoral studies."

There has been much discussion of this issue on Internet forums. The discussion on the JET forum can be viewed here and on the Big Daikon forum can be viewed here.
