What's happening to GEOS schools around the world?

ELGMainLogo.jpg

EL Gazette reports on GEOS schools around the world: 'Geos’ Australian schools closed in February, while Geos New Zealand is now Language Centres New Zealand, under local ownership following a February buyout led by the Christchurch branch’s principal Justin Mastoyo. Geos Malta closed for the winter last September, with plans to re-open this summer.

Another management buyout acquired the UK and France Geos operations, which will relaunch with a new name in May. Uri Carnet, vice-president for Geos North America, told the Gazette that the Japanese parent company’s bankruptcy delayed a sale of the profitable US and Canada schools, where it’s business as usual while a buyer is sought. The future of the Irish Geos school – not part of the European buyout – is less clear. The school currently has no management, with teaching staff running it on a day-to-day basis.'

The EL Gazette, established in 1979, is the only international newspaper in the English language, English medium education and training industry. Published monthly it carries the latest in news about English Language Teaching and English medium education from around the world, as well as information about courses for teachers, students and education consultants, information on career prospects, book and product reviews as well as market reports from around the globe.
