The 'Children's National English Speech Contest' will be held again this year. The contest is hosted by the Mainichi Shinbun, The Mainichi Kodomo Shinbun and TBS, and is supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Applications will be accepted from April 1st until June 15th.

Applicants for this contest need to be children who live in Japan and whose native language is not English. There are several stages to the contest; the first heats are regional, and these are followed by a national contest. The contest is for groups of children as well as for individuals. One group should consist of more than 5 students from an elementary school or a private language school.
