Gene Van Troyer made a tremendous contribution to ELT in Japan

vantroyerg.jpgA great many people around Japan were deeply saddened to hear that Gene Van Troyer passed away on Saturday morning. Gene was liked and respected by so many English language teachers around Japan. He made a tremendous contribution over the years particularly as Editor of 'The Language Teacher' and then as President of JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching).

Gene was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and first came to Japan as an exchange student at Waseda University in 1974. In addition to his work for English language teachers in Japan, he was a poet, SF writer and translation consultant. He leaves behind a wife, three children, and many friends and admirers.
