School trips within Japan now being affected by swine flu

pig.jpegThere is increasing evidence that schools are now even canceling school trips within Japan as well as trips overseas because of nervousness about swine flu. It seems likely that this could already be happening on quite a large scale.

The Asahi Shimbun has found one example in Tokushima Prefecture where 'more than half of about 300 public elementary and junior high schools in Tokushima Prefecture have canceled or postponed domestic school trips'. These trips were mainly to Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. The mayor has 'accused the prefectural board of education of overreacting, but a board official said the safety of students had to come first.'
