Pearson partners with web-based language learning community

livemocha-pearson.jpgPearson, the world's leading education company, and Livemocha, the world's largest online language learning community have made an agreement to develop new, direct-to-consumer, English language learning courses. The first courses are scheduled for launch in August 2009.

Livemocha is an innovative web community that combines language learning and social networking. It was launched in September 2007 and already has over 2 million members around the world. Each member has a home page on the Livemocha site and can use the page as a platform for learning English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi or Icelandic.

Pearson is a UK-based company that owns Longman, Penguin books and the Financial Times. Livemocha is based in Seattle and is owned by venture capitalists and other technology investors.
