Elementary school English education and children of foreign residents to benefit from stimulus package

japa_flag.jpgThe Mainichi Shimbun reported today that the Ministry of Education 'has announced a 2 trillion yen education package, as part of the government's additional budget, with a heavy emphasis on technology and English teaching.'

I billion yen will be allocated to training teachers in charge of English lessons for 5th and 6th grade elementary school students. Other measures include providing guaranteed education for the children of foreign residents, installing electronic blackboards in every public elementary and junior high school in Japan, upgrading TVs, computers and networks, reducing fees for high school students, subsidising tuition fees for private universities, and supporting job hunting.
