Kumon has announced that it is closing all its speed reading schools around Japan except the school in Yurakucho. This affects 20 schools in the Kanto area and all other schools throughout Japan. Schools that offer the speed reading system just as part of a range of courses will not be affected for the time being. It is the special speed reading schools that are being closed.
The kumon method, developed by Toru Kumon, is the largest mathematics and language educational system in the world. There are currently over 4 million children studying with the kumon method in 46 countries. The speed reading system has been one of their more recent projects.
