German Giant Mulls Thomson Learning Takeover

German media giant Bertelsmann is considering the acquisition of Thomson Learning, which the Thomson corporation put up for sale late last year. Bertelsmann has done a deal with Citigroup Private Equity and Morgan Stanley to create a fund of £2.5bn which will give Bertelsmann the right to take a minority share in information companies with a view to an outright acquisition. According to the Financial Times, Thomson Learning is the first acquisition being considered. Bertelsmann owns publishing company Random House amongst other media properties.
