English Teacher Dies in Hit and Run

A fisherman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of negligence and hit-and-run in a Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, road accident in which an English teacher from the United States was killed and his compatriot seriously injured, police said. Jeffrey Sanderson, 23, was killed when he was hit at a crossing by a passenger car that sped off. Patrick Pope, also 23 and an English teacher, was seriously injured by the same car and then by another car, they said. (Kyodo News)
