Welcome to my Game Corner. Here I introduce a game for you to use in your classes to help make English come alive.

Hedbanz Directions: Get ready! The fun is about to begin!

Hedbanz for Kids is a great, interactive EFL game for Japanese students of all ages. It is also ideal for young-at-heart native English speakers. In short, it is a fun game for English classes at school and family and friends at home.

2-6 players can play.

Suggested Rules for EFL Learners:

1. Before playing, the teacher or leader should divide the cards into the following three sections:

Animals:
butterfly cat cow duck elephant fish fly giraffe	goat lion mouse orangutan puppy parrot pig pigeon	rhino shark sheep snail snake turkey wasp worm
Food:
apple bacon beans cake chicken chocolate corn flakes	french fries hamburger ice cream ketchup milk orange peas	potato rice spinach sandwich sausage spaghetti tomato
Things:
bed bike car cup chair drawers fence	hammer hat ladder light bulb money pencil pillow	pitcher shoe sock spoon table toaster t-shirt

2. Each player puts on a headband, and the teacher or leader places a card in each player's headband.

3. All the players look at each other's cards, which, because they are perched on top of everyone's head, usually stirs giggles from each player.

4. The teacher or leader picks up the timer, turns it over and says, "Go!"

5. The first player starts asking YES or NO questions. For example,

"Am I an animal?
Am I a thing?
Am I a food?
Am I sweet?
Am I red?
Am I a fruit?
Am I a vegetable?"

The player asks these questions until he/she guesses the answer or the timer goes out.

6. If the student guesses the card before the timer goes out, the leader inserts another card into the player's headband, and the player starts asking questions again until the timer goes out. If the timer goes out, the player keeps the same card and the next player goes.

7. The game continues like this for 10-15 minutes. At the end of the game, the student with the most cards wins.

*If and when the player is stumped, the other players can give a hint. This is acceptable as long as it is done in English.
