JALT2004: NPO JALT To Hold Its Annual Language Conference in Nara
JALT Press Release, September 16, 2004
The Japan Association of Language Teaching (JALT) will hold its 30th Annual International Conference on Language Teaching and Learning & Educational Materials Exposition at Tezukayama University Gakuenmae Campus, in Nara, Japan during November 19-22 this fall. JALT's annual conference attracts over two thousand teachers, professors, academics, and administrators every year, and serves as a one-stop shopping and education center that caters to the diverse needs of people in the educational field. The annual conference features hundreds of workshops, presentations, and lectures, and guests can browse through Asia's largest exposition of learning and educational materials. It is an ideal opportunity for teaching professionals to select teaching/learning materials for their students for the following school year.

The plenary speakers at the conference will be 1) Stephen Krashen, who is currently Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Southern California; 2) Michael McCarthy, an internationally recognized authority on ESL/EFL and Applied Linguistics and Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Nottingham; and 3) Susan Barduhn, Associate Professor at the School for International Training in Vermont, USA.
JALT President James Swan said, "This year's conference theme, 'Language Learning for Life' is a reminder to all of us that learning doesn't have to stop at an early age. Indeed, a lifelong commitment to learning will help one become more knowledgeable, productive, and versatile. I invite all teachers, Japanese and foreign, to join us in a weekend jamboree designed especially for language teachers. Guests will find it enlightening, enriching and even entertaining. One can meet teachers ranging from teachers of children to university professors to teachers of adults. Guests are free to choose the workshops and presentations that interest them. I am also pleased to announce that the immensely popular ‘International Food Fair' will back again at this year's conference."
